During 2018 River’s Gift, in partnership with Soteria Safe Sleeping Advice, Safe Sleep Space and LaTrobe University, conducted nationwide research of over 2000 parents/expectant parents. It was discovered that there was a significant gap in safe sleep and SIDS knowledge.
“We need to educate people. We need to create behavioural change to save babies lives”– Karl Waddell, River’s Gift.
In educating parents, grandparents, healthcare professionals, childcare workers and caregivers on the key principles of infant safe sleep, the external ‘stressors’ associated with a Sudden and Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI, which includes SIDS) can be identified and eliminated, helping significantly reduce the number of fatalities in sleep.
